Summer has hit the UK and the team here at Fusion HQ have been experiencing sweltering temperatures! This made us think about how those of you who work in or manage a care home cope with protecting your residents, who are particularly at risk during a heatwave.

The NHS “How to Cope in hot weather” article says that when experiencing a heatwave the most vulnerable people are those aged 75 and over, with a serious chronic condition, especially heart or breathing problems, people with mobility problems – for example, with Parkinson’s disease or who have had a stroke, people with serious mental health problems, people on certain medications, including those that affect sweating and temperature control – we are conscious that this is the majority of the people in your care.

We asked a few of our clients how they deal with keeping residents safe in hot weather and how Fusion helps them to monitor this.

The Pines; Madhog Nursing Home Ltd use the Fusion system to manage each residents’ daily fluid intake through the Daily Notes function, and have recently taken that one step further by adding an alert on to the home screen reminding all carers to be vigilant when recording Fluid Intake during the heatwave.

We would love to hear if you have any other ways of how Fusion helps you to keep cool.
